Mr. Lam, aged 59, with Diabetes Mellitus (DM), had developed a wound of size 3.24cm2 over shin of left leg with a sinus of 0.7cm in depth at 3 o'clock position. The wound was initially 100% covered with eschar and an abscess was found underneath the eschar after the eschar was removed. The wound became stagnant after 3 months' conventional treatment.
During his first visit to Nu Pro Nurse Centre, further wound debridement was performed by Nu Pro wound nurse. Natrox topical oxygen therapy was prescribed to provide more than 98% of pure oxygen 24/7 for his wound to speed up wound healing. Advanced dressing was used to prevent infection and provide optimal environment to further enhance wound healing process.
In first two weeks of treatment, wound exudate increased significantly due to the reactivation of cells from the wound area in response to Natrox topical oxygen therapy. Vascularity of wound bed improved with significant wound reduction and the sinus closed after 3 weeks. Wound progressed satisfactorily and healed up in week 5.
