Pressure Injury

A female aged 91, with medical history of type-II diabetes mellitus and stroke, bed-bound, had a diabetic ulcer developed on her right heel. The wound was 100% covered by eschar. She was referred to Nu Pro Nurse Centre.

Advanced debridement skills, such as Conservative Sharp Wound Debridement, were applied by wound nurses to remove the thick layer of eschar and slough. Wound cleanser with special formula and dressing with autolytic debridement were also applied. Pressure relief is also a key factor in promoting wound healing in this case. The right heel should be made pressure-free and with appropriate use of pressure relieving products including Alternating Pressure Air Mattresses, Pressure Relieving Cushion and heel protector. In 8 weeks’ time, wound size reduced by over 70%. In 14 weeks’ time, the wound healed up satisfactorily.
