A 43-year-old lady got scald injury by hot soup on her left foot. She sought medical advice without delay from hospital and followed up by outreach home visiting nurse for wound management. However the wound condition continued to deteriorate with increased amount of greenish discharge and pain after one week and cellulitis noted. Finally she was referred to Nu Pro Nurse Centre for further wound management.
For this case, control of wound infection and pain management were the major focuses of the treatment in initial phase. Application of advanced dressing with silver and Bioptron light therapy were prescribed. During the entire process, patient worried very much on having scar cosmetically unacceptable and possible impact to the function of the foot. Appropriate explanation and reassurance were of great importance in order to reduce her anxiety as this might affect the rate of wound healing. Gladly the response of wound to treatment was encouraging and finally the wound healed up in 9 days. Patient was impressed with the speed of wound healing and the good quality of scar resulted. She was very happy that she could return to normal life with full function of her affected leg.
