A 37-year old female had undergone Cauterization and Excision of warts on right thumb in January 2015. An open wound developed after the operation, which involved large area of distal part of the thumb with partial thickness loss of dermal layer. Wound deterioration continued after 2 weeks of conventional treatment. Patient was very frustrated with the wound condition and the extreme pain experienced during every dressing procedure. She consulted Nu Pro Nurse Centre in February 2015.

Tissue Management and Pain Control were the major focuses of this case. The wound was packed with a gauze saturated with Wound Cleanser for 5 minutes before the sharp debridement procedure in order to facilitate the process and reduce pain experienced. With the combination of gentle saline irrigation and skillful debridement technique, a majority of wound debris was removed successfully without any discomfort.

Custom-made cutting & special skill in application of dressing were served to enhance the contact between the wound and dressing, hence maximizing the effect of the advanced dressing. Coupled with Bioptron Light Therapy, a synergistic effect resulted exerted a significant promotion to wound healing & marked pain reduction.

Complete wound healing with satisfactory cosmetic & functional outcome were achieved after 3 weeks.
