Stoma Care

A common factor for peristomal skin excoriation is leakage. Leakage can be very frustrating and demoralizing to patient as it may be a big hindrance of patient’s body image and social life. In this case, the patient was frustrated in managing the stoma as peristomal skin was always excoriated due to fecal irritation and the skin remained sore and reddened. Our nurse team assessed the skin condition stoma size, output and finally identified the major problems. With appropriate pouching system, proper technique on application of stoma care products, the problems were solved immediately and the peristomal skin healed in 4 days. The patient felt comfortable and confident in managing the stoma. Quality of life improved and he could finally return to his normal life.
